Short said it best: we need to get in touch with our internal experience, or our assumptions will be incorrect. If there is one thing we need to be better leaders, it's a better baseline for assumptions. To be an effective leader, you have to introspect to understand the lenses through which you see and interact with the world. Most "inside-out" approaches provide little guidance when it comes to the methodology of self-inquiry. When the object is the self, objectivity is a challenge. Without some kind of system, we are not likely to read ourselves accurately. That's where cultural intelligence comes in. Culture is the human operating system. Nobody operates outside of culture, anywhere, at any time. Cultural intelligence (CQ) is a language for understanding yourself and your relationships at the most radical (root) level.
